Stories Illuminated In Development
What if the illustrations could tell the story, too?
Stories Illuminated explores how projection, animatronics, and physical storytelling can transform a traditional storybook into an interactive experience. With the projection system concealed inside the book, illustrations can appear to move and come to life. Inspired by Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, the project brings engineering and storytelling together in a new approach to reading.
Concept
The idea is a storybook where the pictures don't just sit on the page — they move. By hiding a projection system inside the book itself, illustrations can shift, animate, and respond as the story unfolds, turning reading into something closer to a small performance.
It draws on the spirit of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library: making reading feel magical, and putting that experience in more hands.
Where it stands
Stories Illuminated is in development. The descriptions here reflect the intended design and the direction of the project — not finished, demonstrated features. As the build progresses, this page will separate what has actually been demonstrated from what is still planned.
- Intended design: concealed in-book projection, animatronic movement, and illustrations that appear to come to life.
- Demonstrated so far: documentation is in progress and will be added here as it becomes available.
Documentation
Process notes, prototype photos, and video will be added here as the project develops.
Reserved for development photos, video, and a Rive animation.
